Longing for Perfection shows the result of 21 years of collecting by the Kröller-Müller Museum under the directorship of Evert van Straaten. This book gives the reader a look behind the scenes of a museum for modern and contemporary art, the Kröller-Müller Museum in the Netherlands, and its over a century long collection history.
The book not only guides the reader through an imported part of the cultural heritage administered by this museum, but also shows the considerations behind the decisions to acquire works for a public collection. This book and the exhibition of the same name, which runs from 1 April to 28 October 2012, complement each other, but the book may be enjoyed on its own. A DVD accompanies the book, showing images of and basic information on all objects acquired by the museum since 1991 in pdf-format. This book is only available in a Dutch language version.
