The paintings of Vincent van Gogh in the collection of the Kröller-Müller Museum
The paintings of Vincent van Gogh in the collection of the Kröller-Müller Museum
This catalogue, published in 2003, shows the paintings contained in the Kröller-Müller Museum collection. The information assembled here provides an overview of what we know about these paintings, combined with the results of research carried out by art historians as to the authenticity of the works, their dates, their origins and the exhibitions where they have been exhibited. The authors have enjoyed both internal and external assistance in not only uncovering new information on the origins of the paintings but also providing new datings. Over the years doubts arising as to the authenticity of some of the works have, in many cases, been given a reasoned basis. The path taken by the paintings the moment they left Van Gogh’s studio is traced, and space is devoted to some early collectors of Van Gogh’s works. In addition the catalog describes twelve paintings that used to be part of the collection but have ‘disappeared’ for a variety of reasons. The catalogue closes with – among other things – a chronologically ordered list of acquisitions of works by Van Gogh by the Kröller-Müllers and a chronological list of exhibitions for which works were loaned out from the exhibition.
